Female-founding
teams in Africa only received an abysmal 1% of total funding on the continent
in 2021. To close the gender-fundraising gap, Make-IT in Africa together with Unconform launches the
ScaleX Project to support early-stage gender-lens ecosystem actors in Africa
build stronger solutions, relationships, and communities.
The ScaleX Project convenes key early-stage gender lens investing (GLI) actors in Africa to cross-pollinate ideas, co-create solutions, and build relationships to accelerate more equitable funding systems.
The project will...
- identify key GLI barriers and catalyse high leverage innovative solutions around the challenges
- weave community among key ecosystem actors to drive ownership & long-term collaboration
- increase visibility, momentum and knowledge on the needs and aspirations of the African GLI landscape.
The project centres the program around 5 exciting gender-lens organizational leads, along with a group of experts, collaborators and mentors, to dig into the most pressing and urgent challenges chosen leads. The ScaleX project team will guide the leads through problem-framing, co-ideation, solution mapping and design over two in-person events in November 2023 and January 2024 in Berlin and Cape Town, respectively.
