Make-IT in Africa believes in the catalytic power of African Innovations. In our quest to support scalable businesses across Africa, we are proud to announce that BasiGo, one of the startups we supported in our Smart Cities Innovation Program, has secured an investment of $42 million to expand operations in East Africa.

BasiGo an electric mobility company based in East Africa secured this funding round to scale operations and advance the adoption of clean public transportation in the region. This achievement underscores the region’s growing commitment to sustainable mobility.

This substantial investment enables BasiGo to pursue its ambitious goal of deploying 1,000 electric buses over the next three years while expanding into new markets and vehicle types. The funds will also support advancements in its "Pay-As-You-Drive" financing model, allowing bus operators to access electric buses at reduced upfront costs. The company's assembly facility at Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers in Thika will ramp up production to meet growing demand.

The SCIP program implemented by Make-IT in Africa proudly supported BasiGo through a series of capacity building, mentorship and support to develop tailored business plan and go to market strategy and access to global connections facilitating their development of innovative solutions in clean transportation. The partnership reflects Make-IT's dedication to fostering startups that address pressing environmental challenges while driving economic growth in Africa.
